And far too often I let these little glimmers of hope for our collective musical futures fly on by, after giving them their fair share of repeats through my car stereo of course.<br />
<br />
In an effort to break this bad habit of under-sharing (how unheard of in this day and age!), I present to you <a href="https://www.facebook.com/theleisurecollective">LEISURE</a>.<br />
<br />
I was first introduced to them a few months ago with their tracks "<b>Hot Love</b>" & "<b>Got It Bad</b>," thanks to <a href="http://www.hillydilly.com/">Hilly Dilly</a>. I'm not sure if it was their groovy low-fi, <b>Electric Guest</b>-esk sound, but I gravitated to them.<br />
<iframe frameborder="no" height="166" scrolling="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/209596771&color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%"></iframe>
<br />
Now they've re-emerged into my Hype Machine "favorites" once again with a new tantalizing tune, "<b>All Over You</b>." This is essentially what you're going to want to put on when you're getting ready to open a bottle of wine and lay down some serious game. Touché to all the smart fellas, with good musical taste, that casually slip this into their '<i>Netflix and Chill</i>' Playlist.<br />
<br />
I totally dig it and you probably will to.<br />
<iframe frameborder="no" height="450" scrolling="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/227530501&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true" width="100%"></iframe><br />
<br />
LEISURE will be stateside for their debut U.S. performance on <b>October 19</b>, at <i>It's A School Night</i> in Hollywood & another LA show at <b><a href="http://www.bootlegtheater.org/" target="_blank">Bootleg Theater</a></b> the following night (<a href="http://www.ticketfly.com/event/953609-beach-baby-leisure-los-angeles/" target="_blank">for only 8 bucks!</a>). They actually had their first show ever in Sydney last night, so congrats to them! I strongly urge you all to keep your eyes peeled for what these guys put out next, or at least give them a follow on the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/theleisurecollective">book of faces</a> or <a href="https://soundcloud.com/theleisurecollective">musical mass of condensed water</a>.Lesliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04674856860146158892noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1630594246644761996.post-10272778751837230532015-10-12T09:19:00.000-07:002015-10-12T09:23:18.719-07:00Funkier than Thou • Charles Bradley - "Why Is It So Hard"<meta name=”description” content=”Charles Bradley has more soul in his pinky toenail than most do in their entire being. If you're ever having an off day, or feel like the struggle is just too real, chances are Charles Bradley's "Why Is It So Hard" will make you feel like <i>you</i>, my sad little friend, <i>are not alone</i>.<br />
<br />
WARNING: This man has more soul in his pinky toenail than most do in their entire being. And that's a fact.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/yBdTVmSVq14" width="560"></iframe></div>
<br />
I always come back to this SXSW performance of this incredible song for a
few reasons. His backing band, <a href="http://menahanstreetband.com/" target="_blank">The Menahan Street Band</a>, is excellent.
There's also a think layer of hipster smug that fills the place, so I inevitably feel more in the loop for witnessing the set. And, lastly the fact that Charles is sweating more than I do in a calendar year weirdly puts a big 'ole smile on my face.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank you for your gifts Charles.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Oh man, my affinity for beautifully bearded men truly is endless. I may have found the source of this condition and I ain't mad about it. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I digress...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW_RJZNZMbZfO4oK0EokMfg" target="_blank">My Morning Jacket</a> is whispering sweet, sweet nothings into your ear holes and tantalizing you with visual delights in their new music video for "Compound Fracture." They grabbed the footage for this trippy vid during their visit to Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheater. I've heard amazing things about that venue and after watching this video and their live performance from the show, I know it must be added to my "Dream Venues" list.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3LGDI_oz1Dg" width="560"></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I was going to drop in the video for the whole Red Rocks performance, but it seems as though "the man" has taken it off of YouTube and it is forever gone. It was an epic set, so hopefully it comes out on DVD. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Until then, go trim your beads and reevaluate your life goals.</div>

These two new jams, "Waves" and "Daydreamer," come straight out of a cave in Joshua Tree.<br />

Heavenly, ain't it?</div>
<br />
Keep on creeping down the playlist for a thoroughly enjoyable mix of vocal, acoustics & tambourine goodness. Some of my favorites include "Anagram," "Mind Over Mater," and "Eros."<br />

<br />
A semi-silent drive along side the rolling hills of central California, toward a semi-scheduled weekend in the north.
Wanting to say a lot more than I ever did, but content in the journey.<br />
<br />
It's very familiar, and a good tune, whether it ignites a memory within you or not.<br />

The kooks will all soon be unleashed from their cubicles and onto the dampened streets. Brace yourself with this wondrous set by The Arcs from this morning's episode of Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW. The Arcs is composed of many talented musicians including Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) and Richard Swift.

And, well, just as I thought to post a throwback / ode to that all too familiar weather pattern, the clouds broke and now we're all burning in the blistering desert heat that has sucked SoCal dry for the last 4 years.<br />
<br />
With all that weather wordiness being said, I'm still inspired by the laziness and lethargy the heat has inflicted on me. So I ask you to now, and for the rest of this blissful season, bust out the zinc, grab those vintage frames and settle into an overpriced, ironically animal-shaped flotation device... these tunes are reserved for the laziest of <b><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Pool Daze</span>.</b><br />

Not a faulty YouTube link or a busted download, but truly groovy jams just seem to pour out of each post and honestly, I just can't help myself.<br />
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<b>It's <a href="https://mustachebashsd.com/" target="_blank">Mustache Bash</a> season!</b></h2>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U87fL7_OZkg/VQC-skOOuaI/AAAAAAAAB8Y/lkqk3ozsTUw/s1600/188461_1767564222168_4674078_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U87fL7_OZkg/VQC-skOOuaI/AAAAAAAAB8Y/lkqk3ozsTUw/s1600/188461_1767564222168_4674078_n.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">4th Annual Mustache Bash</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
While this annual rager packed with 70s jams accompanied to furry lipped debauchery is currently in its 8th incredible year, I feel more than lucky to be in attendance (and there in spirit while I was abroad) for the last seven. The first was completely by chance and by some grace of God I actually ended up meeting four of my best friends and soul sisters. The following years included more friends, whom I'd later met and pieced together that were the beautiful souls behind this miraculous event forever lodged in my memory bank. In years since, I can truly say no other single day has offered up as many fun, wild and absolutely hilarious <a href="http://passionedrop.blogspot.com/2012/03/earth-wind-stache.html" target="_blank">memories</a> as the one and only Stache Bash. Granted, there's definitely some blood, sweat and tears that go into its making (THANKS BOYS!!!) and that's not including the year I nearly bled out on the damn side walk after jumping into a pile of glass... aka the Heel Massacre of 2010. Straight up looked like someone had been stabbed to death outside. Oops.</div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-COxYMmZWw6g/VQC-tGza8SI/AAAAAAAAB8c/C-A8RPegwd4/s1600/1016569_10202526506857187_1042860962_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-COxYMmZWw6g/VQC-tGza8SI/AAAAAAAAB8c/C-A8RPegwd4/s1600/1016569_10202526506857187_1042860962_n.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></td></tr>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Moving on...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's here again. And (side note) the timing could not possibly be sweeter. After a whole weekend surrounded by friends in our funkalious flare, I'll be leaving for Bali to spend 5 weeks exploring, hiking, documenting and purely <i>living</i> with one of my dearest friends. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, let's get the funk down my friends! Cheers to all of the bashers, 8-year vets & 1st year newbs, I can't wait to shake it with you beautiful humans! Listen to the jams below to get your limbs loose for Saturday! PS - Tickets are still available <a href="https://mustachebashsd.com/" target="_blank">here</a>, and this year's outrageous lineup includes <a href="https://www.facebook.com/flooziesduo" target="_blank">The Floozies</a>, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Orgone.Official" target="_blank">Orgone</a>, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/yomamasbigfatbootyband" target="_blank">Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band</a> and the one & only <a href="https://instagram.com/themustachebash/" target="_blank">Mustache Bash Family Band</a>. :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You know a mix is going to be fire when it starts off with The Meters FYI...</div>

<br />
Seeing them live is indescribable, although <a href="http://www.passionedrop.blogspot.com/2012/11/tame-impala-the-fillmore.html"><b>I've tried</b></a>. They're just amazing. The year after I got back from Malta (2012) I was lucky enough to see them three times. Always with or surrounded by people I love. Always smiling ear-to-ear. And <b>always </b>in utter disbelief of their talent and insanely magnetizing musical capabilities.<br />
<br />
Even though my love affair with them doesn't seem like it started that long ago, there are major moments & periods of time in my life that <i>they will forever remind me of</i>. I feel so grateful for that, and hopefully those times will continue in new and different ways. Their music makes me feel weirdly hopeful for the best things. Again, I don't know how to describe what the hell one of their live shows does to me, but all I can say is if you have a chance to see them... take it. And have the time of your f*%#ing life. :)<br />

<br />
<br />
By a chance spin on a Pandora playlist, a blast from the past erupted onto our office speakers, much to the dismay of our perpetually annoyed neighbors.<br />
<br />
Hearing this song again instantly sparked a particular feeling inside me. Took me back, as any good 'throwback' should. Not all the way back to high-tops and side ponies, but just enough to remember how far I've come since then. Sophomore year of college to be exact.<br />
<br />
This album was on repeat in my car, in my head and more or less most of that crazy era. Trying to figure it out, trying to figure myself out, wanting out... out, out, out. It was a trip, but listening to this song, and the entire "Only By the Night" album, on repeat made me feel better. I think it was in these years that I truly realized cruisin' in your car to good music, no matter the genre, is without a doubt the best kind of <i>urban solace</i>.<br />

It is almost his <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hozier_(musician)">birthday</a> after all.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gx4NsL3dtUY/VPikjy_o51I/AAAAAAAAB5g/NbzWp_xCcEk/s1600/jaCMdV1C.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Image of Andrew Hozier-Byrne, or Hozier, looking off in the distance for a promotional photo." border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gx4NsL3dtUY/VPikjy_o51I/AAAAAAAAB5g/NbzWp_xCcEk/s1600/jaCMdV1C.jpeg" height="320" title="Irish musician and singer-songwriter, Hozier." width="320" /></a></div>
It's only taken 6 short months since the proper release of his first album (most of the tracks made their first debuts on smaller EPs earlier on) for this guy to completely set <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/nickmessitte/2014/12/03/on-hozier-why-is-take-me-to-church-so-popular/">on fire</a>. Sold out shows, a Radio 1 appearance and his name etched on this year's Coachella lineup, a coveted accolade for any newcomer or veteran artist.<br />
<br />
In my opinion, with the amount of soul in his voice, he really can do no wrong, but it really helps that his lyrics are <b>pure gold. </b>I'm drawn by his comforting experiences, in love and life, and completely pulled in by his honest and vulnerable take on relationships.<br />
<br />
He's been on a continuous playlist I've clutched onto for support these last few months. Composed of mostly HypeM finds, the Jack Steadman's Hallelujah Edit (that's a mouthful) of From Eden has been a stand out of ways to <a href="http://passionedrop.blogspot.com/2015/02/hozier-problem-cover.html">escape the overkill</a> of the TMTC overload. I've also gotten to enjoy hearing his voice the last few nights as I arrived home, since my roommate has had a similar infatuation with his <strike>sexy</strike> soulful talents.<br />
<br />
Although he's definitely a breath of fresh air in the mainstream, that's not to say there aren't definitely a few acts that have tapped into this soulful quality in the last few years - I'm looking at you <a href="http://passionedrop.blogspot.com/2012/03/why-arent-you-famous-please-dont-get.html">Pickwick</a>!<br />
<br />
But again, Hozier has come out as the whole package of soul & talent that everyone seems to love.<br />
<br />
Upon further inspection of the tracks on his eponymous debut studio album, I'm in love too. I like how it all has a cohesive story of who he is, or at least who he was when he was writing. I'm a fan of lyrics crafted to place you there, in their space and time. Mostly because it might just mirror yours as well.<br />
<br />
Here's a few that I'd be remised if I didn't include in this post, and the lyrics that made me enjoy them that much more.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
•</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>"Babe, there's something tragic about you</i></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Don't you agree?"</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>"Babe, there's something lonesome about you</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Something so wholesome about you</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Get closer to me"</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>"Would things be easier if there was a right way?</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Honey, there is no right way."</i></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>"Honey, when you kill the lights, and kiss my eyes,</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>I feel like a person for a moment of my life"</i></div>

<br />
NEW <b><a href="https://www.facebook.com/tameimpala">TAME IMPALA</a></b>!!<br />
<br />
Okay... calming down...now.<br />
<br />
This is pretty massive though.<br />
<br />
Tame Impala JUST dropped an 8-minute masterpiece, "<a href="http://www.getmusic.com.au/Let_It_Happen.mp3">Let it Happen</a>," which is apparently track 1 off of their highly anticipated new album. Their label hinted at new music coming from the psychedelic hypno-groove rock group (that's a mouthful) around the start of this year, but it honestly couldn't have come soon enough for their eager fans.<br />
<br />
The direction they've taken with their sound makes this track feel like it's just the tip of an epic iceburg!<br />
<br />
Apologies, I really can't contain my excitedment to hear the whole thing. I only wish I was going to be in the States to see them in Pomona, or even Coachella, next month. Keeping my fingers crossed for Outside Lands though. Check out their entire North American tour at the bottom of this post to see where you can catch them this year.<br />

It's finally happening!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: right;">
</div>
Here's a little backstory... I was rummaging around the blog the other night, looking for songs from yesteryear that tend to put a smile on my face, when I happily land on a <a href="http://passionedrop.blogspot.com/2013/06/quadron-avalanche-album.html">post about Quadron</a> - the Danish duo with the epic second album inspired by the one and only <b>MJ</b>. Although the links to all their sound cloud tracks were expired (fixing soon!) I couldn't help but listen to their unique tunes and get swept away by their awesome music videos (Coco is a serious babe)!<br />
<br />
As I extended my search to Google, since my blog was not cutting it with those broken links (dammit...), I just so happened to see that they were playing in LA in a few weeks! Of course the show was sold out, but since someone up there is apparently looking out for me, they announced a second date and had tickets left!<br />
<br />
So, yes, I'm finally seeing <b>Quadron</b> with my best friend Oatie (not her real name) and I couldn't be happier. If you want to join in on the fun they'll be at The Fold (Bootleg Theater) in Silverlake on Thursday, March 19 & Friday, March 20.<br />
<br />
I'll just let Coco's epic fringe take it from here...<br />

For a while now, well at least for the last few years, I've had an infatuation with <b>full moons</b>.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Although my grandma would tell me how I always asked about the moon as a kid, the most recent memory I have of this budding admiration was the first time I heard about a "super moon." I was in Malta and I got invited to a full moon "party" across the island, which was more like a very tame bon fire gathering back home. Down an endlessly long set of stairs, we met a group of other expats sitting on blankets in a circle on the yellowish gold sand- it was in Golden Bay after all. We sat around for a few hours, luckily I had my ukulele Suki with me to pass the time, and we watched as this monsterous moon crept up and over the westerly hills. Later on while we waited for our bus home, the girls I was with did a little photo shoot of us "holding the moon" in different ways, playing with it's bright silhouette. That moon definitely deserved its title, and was by all accounts unforgettable. A few months after that I nearly circumnavigated the globe to find myself at yet another, and drastically more crazy, full moon party in Thailand. And I guess from then on I've been hooked.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="p1">
I've always seen them as a symbol of newness and excitement, curiosity and, of course, beauty. And while most of those things are undeniable, the thing I seemed to have forgotten is that this beautiful mass didn't just appear suddenly; it was "growing" slowly but surely over time. Even on the darkest nights, when it was seemingly all but gone, it was simply building strength for a new and bright resurgence. It took time to come into full view, it wasn't instant, but it was constantly progressing before the world got to appreciate its beauty.</div>
<div class="p2">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
I'll try to remember that every time I admire it at it's brightest. </div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
It's not overnight.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
It takes time.</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
So, tonight, well I guess last night by the time I post this, I sat in my car and looked up at the moon and admired it again. There's so many things that have happened in this "moon cycle" I guess you could say. The last one was on the first Tuesday of February. I remember looking up at it through my windshield and blurred vision, but I didn't enjoy it. I didn't admire it. And honestly I kind of resented it being there since I'd always wanted special things to happen on full moon days/nights. And that day was anything but. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
A lot can change in a month. I know I've let so many pass by at super-speed these last two years, but I'm happy today that I'll get to enjoy this one. I feel like I've earned it. </div>
</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
So let's get back to the music. Here are the tunes that are often on my mind during this magical time in the lunar calendar, <i>or at least this one in particular</i>. Whether you believe in the energy of it or just think it's a big 'ol pizza in the sky, at least your night walks will be a little bit brighter. Which reminds me... I CAN'T WAIT FOR DAYLIGHT SAVINGS! Sorry, I'm just really excited to come home to sunlight.</div>
</div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="p2" style="text-align: center;">
Hope you enjoy... </div>

<br />
<br />
Like a familiar scent that triggers a memory, or a sudden flash of Déjà vu, there are so many instances in life that remind you of the mind's power to transport us to another time & place. I tend to be most "transported" by songs, as I'm sure so many others can relate to. Whether it's a simple melody or an entire genre (ska during the 90s anyone?), you can hear less than 5 secs of said tune(s) and feel like you are there. Truly taken back.<br />
<br />
While I could go on about all of the songs that have that effect on me, that would be a damn saga of my life. I won't put that on you... it's much too early in the week and I've been far too emotional these last few weeks.<br />
<br />
I will, however, introduce you (maybe) to an artist that has a beautifully nostalgic sound that will take you back. Back where? I'm not sure. For you it my be your grandma's plastic wrapped couch or maybe your family's cabin on the Rouge River. For others it could be the stormy days spent wrapped up in blankets with a significant love, surviving off Top Ramen & "wooly", or just a chance encounter with a beautiful songbird at a jazz bar.<br />
<br />
If none of the scenarios above resonate with you, then I'll just let Mr. <b><a href="http://www.leonbridges.com/">Leon Bridges</a></b> allow you to make your own connections to his music; starting with his latest and what I believe to be his greatest single yet, "Lisa Sawyer."<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jPdzSFEVQss" width="560"></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now, if that didn't make you feel all kinds of something, please check your pulse and make sure you're still alive. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The lesson of the day, kids, is that real music is still out there. It might be hard to find at times, but it does. It lives in garages of annoyed suburban parents, in the studio apartments of daytime 9-to-5ers / nighttime musicians, in the half empty venues booking the guys who are going the eff after it. It still exists in so many facets, no matter what genre you enjoy, not just this bluesy, old-timey vibe. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The classic, Sam Cooke-esk quality in <a href="https://soundcloud.com/leonbridges">Leon Bridges</a>' voice just gives me a bit more hope for quality musical talent to come through, to take our hearts along for new journeys and to offer up new memories just for simply listening during a certain time or in a particular place. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here's his other two singles currently making their rounds in the Popular section of Hype Machine. Be on the look out for his album to drop sometime this summer on Columbia.</div>

<br />
That could be all I say about this, but I guess I'll elaborate a bit more. :)<br />
<br />
While this may be one month and a million and a half views delayed, but I'm fairly sure Hozier just won me over a little bit more with this one. As much as I love "Take Me to Church," the airwaves have sucked it dry. That being said, every time I've heard one of his other tunes, especially <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMx-Pua_HPc">live versions</a>, I've been thoroughly blown away. And this is definitely no exception...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
The easiest way to make pop bearable is to give it a rock or blues treatment, in my opinion. Throw in some real instruments, and a killer voice if you're lucky, and you can easily bring any song out of the Top 40 crates and into the hearts of indie-lovers everywhere.<br />
<br />
I'm so into Hozier's harmony-filled rendition of this otherwise obnoxious song (sorry not an A. Grande fan). And the REGULATORS interlude (go to 2:15) in there?! Is this guy for real? Ah, just brilliant. Thank you Hozier & more importantly, thank you Warren for laying down such fire lyrics back in '94.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>"If you know like I know, you don't want to step to this.</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>It's the G Funk era, funked out with a gangsta twist.</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>If you smoke like I smoke, then you're high like every day. (ha!)</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>If your ass is a buster, then 213 will regulate."</i></div>
<br />
If you're a cover-lover (?) like me, I strongly suggest you let the BBC Radio 1 covers playlist on YouTube introduce you to some epic renditions of songs you might already love, or hate.<br />
<br />
I'll just leave a few of my other favorites I've heard most recently below, including another amazing one by Hozier. That one hit me right in the heart.<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading :)<br />

This video could not possibly remind me more of a camping trip in the Mojave desert I went on recently with a few good friends and some cool new acquaintances.<br />
<br />
In between guitar jam sessions around the fire, throwing the football around to the backdrop of a mesmerizing desert sunset and off-roading to a rock pile, which happened to be the music video shoot location for Bakersfield's biggest celebrity (or so the crew said?), all who were there could definitely relate to these lyrics.<br />
<br />
Oh, here's the video I'm referring to if I haven't lost you already...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7U5LWokfRHY" width="560"></iframe>
</div>
<br />
This is the brand new single out by a not-so-old favorite of mine, <b>Best Coast</b>.<br />
<br />
Less than a minute in, and you'll feel the dreamy warmth of the song. It's downtempo and lingering vocals can easily allow your mind to drift to another time or place. For me it was that camping trip, but for others it could easily be the drive home from (or to) Coachella, an entire Burning Man experience, or just the most epic summer of your life likely set in the amazing "Lost Coast" (as my friend Nigel calls it). All of this further validates the song's title, and the name of their third album.<br />
<br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ESzNk6lF6l8/VOzN7MgDeoI/AAAAAAAAB3w/_35BbU7fYFE/s1600/Best-Coast-California-Nights.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ESzNk6lF6l8/VOzN7MgDeoI/AAAAAAAAB3w/_35BbU7fYFE/s1600/Best-Coast-California-Nights.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Although, it's already drawing early criticism (at least from Internet trolls) for being roughly "the same" as the other things they've put out, I think Bethany Cosentino’s love affair with California will always be a part of the band's persona. When something inspires you as much as this beautiful state does for this girl, maybe singing about anything else just doesn't satisfy her soul in the same way.<br />
<br />
Inspiration is a funny thing, you know. Some find it in happiness. Some find it in sadness. Some find it in others or merely how someone makes them feel, but there's one thing I will say about inspiration that will likely be my outro for this post...<br />
<br />
Inspiration is a light that shines from within exposing what makes you feel whole, what makes you complete and more importantly what makes you you. By sourcing that light to do the things you love, feeling satisfied creatively or emotionally by those things and sharing them with the world, it not only changes your life, but has the power to change someone else's. It's immensely powerful and it's such a gift to find in life. I hope everyone can find a beautiful source of inspiration in their life.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
ALSO: an update before I forget to post for months, in the next month or so I'll be launching a brand new project I've thought about often but hadn't fully sparked the flame under my butt to get going on. It's a music blog (shocker) that will be heavily influenced by a wanderlust spirit, which will undoubtably include local music from recent or upcoming travels, as well as new music which inspires us to stay curious & hopeful for the future of music. I can't wait to share it all with you and to reignite this love of sharing my favorite tunes through a fresh new platform... get ready to let your heart & soul wander.Lesliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04674856860146158892noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1630594246644761996.post-74748516700945705092014-10-24T23:54:00.000-07:002015-03-16T10:04:53.099-07:00Ain't Loyal • Ellie & Skizzy MarsIt's back. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K101_6CQtbI/VCmZOLeW3TI/AAAAAAAAB2o/QXD67jE9Dp0/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2014-09-29%2Bat%2B10.38.24%2BAM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K101_6CQtbI/VCmZOLeW3TI/AAAAAAAAB2o/QXD67jE9Dp0/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2014-09-29%2Bat%2B10.38.24%2BAM.png" height="318" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm naturally drawn to instrumental tracks with various hip hop and r&b influences, so it's hard not to start swaying along when I hear a good one, no matter where I am. There's something that's just so rich, and layered about a track that can keep your interest with no words to carry it or distract from it's shortcomings.<br />
<br />
On this particular Monday, instrumental perfection was delivered to me by Tom Misch. A stranger for all intensive purposes, who accompanied me as I sipped my god-awful latte and took a second to day dream.<br />
<br />
Here's to boosts when you need them and lyric-less tunes that let the beat say it all.<br />

<br />
As a 90s girl myself, I think I can speak for us all when I say there's something missing in popular music today. Sure you can move to it, if you really try, but it's certainly not as effortless as the decades past. So, if your heart skips a beat when "Return of The Mack" comes on, or you just really need something new to groove to, I'm happy to introduce you to <b>Kailo.</b><br />
<br />
His new EP first caught my attention when the track "Need Ya (feat. Aela Kae)" appeared on my <a href="http://hypem.com/passiONEdrop">HypeM feed</a>.<br />
It had all the makings of the perfect track - a catchy beat, excellent vocals and that special something that just makes you feel good.<br />
<br />
AND <b>THE PHARCYDE SAMPLE </b>("Go Getta")... Sorry to be so basic, but... <b>I CAN'T</b>.<br />
<br />
Since that first encounter, Kailo's tracks have accompanied me on many therapeutic bike rides and has reaffirmed my love for the music scene down under.<br />
<br />
Slip into this funky little collection of rhythmic beats and melodic harmonies below and be on the look out for all of Kailo's latest outputs on his <a href="https://soundcloud.com/kailomusic">SoundCloud</a> & <a href="https://www.facebook.com/itsKailo">Facebook</a>.<br />

Two posts in two day. Does this mean I'm "back"?</div>

Who knows, but here's what you should be listening to while you're busy not caring either way... t<span style="text-align: center;">he brand new track by this year's unequivocal indie breakout star, </span><a href="https://soundcloud.com/zhu" style="text-align: center;">ZHU</a><span style="text-align: center;">.</span><br />

<br />
After going Gold down under, as well as being on the cusp of his first Australian tour, it's no wonder why he chose <a href="http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/music/freemusic.htm">triple J</a> to debut the track to the world. It also made it's way to his already fan packed SoundCloud account just 18 hours ago. Check it out below and spread the word to show your support of this homegrown talent.<br />

With each passing show I made an internal vow to share it on my blog (this thing that you're reading because nothing good is on TV). And with each consequential hangover or an overwhelming exhausting, or just good 'ol laziness, I let the experience and it's relevance to recent events slip idly by and for that I'm... bummed.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F9QPd2q-hkY/VCBNQCE28II/AAAAAAAAB14/LcjoE6W34xA/s1600/915705_1478230965768109_726299073_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F9QPd2q-hkY/VCBNQCE28II/AAAAAAAAB14/LcjoE6W34xA/s1600/915705_1478230965768109_726299073_n.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As I prepare mentally for a new project that I likely have no time for, I'm ready to retrospectively pay tribute to this excellent year of music with some <i>worthy throwbacks</i>. I'll try to work backwards chronologically and add some new ones in there before the new blog is up and running. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Bare with me folks, there are good tunes to be heard and stories you won't want to miss. I promise.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Cheers,</div>

<br />
Oh well. Sorry for the tardiness of my promised October re-cap of live music, real adventures and all-around madness. I'm planning on uping my twitter game to start getting the word out of posts passed on <a href="https://twitter.com/passiONEdrop">@passionedrop</a>. So give it a follow if you feel so inclined & start rediscovering some old favorites, while I seriously perfect my blog-timing skills.Lesliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04674856860146158892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1630594246644761996.post-3410139100344807012013-10-29T00:40:00.001-07:002013-10-29T00:40:38.567-07:00Cure For the Common MondayAttention every full-time <strike>slave</strike> employee on Earth, I've discovered the cure for the weekly plague we refer to as the Monday:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: x-large;">live music.</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yes, that thing that solves almost every other problem you could ever have also has curative properties that diminish the ritual sadness you may know as the beginning of the week.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Aside from this <strike>obvious</strike> miraculous discovery, I'm definitely going to get back on my posting game. Believe me it hasn't been due to a lack of inspiration, just a lack of time and remaining blood flow to my finger tips after a long day.<br />
<br />
Here's a few snaps to give you a little preview of what's to come:</div>
