What can I say about Outside Lands, other than how utterly excited I am to go this year. August is my favorite month of the year for many reasons, it's summery, I was born, and of course we all get to migrate to the North for an amazing weekend of music in Golden Gate Park. I just love San Francisco and I couldn't think of a better city (besides maybe Indio :) to hold a true music festival. But I think my friend Tal described it perfectly when she called it more like a concert in the park, expect with incredible artists, great food, good booze and all your favorite people.
The lineup is incredible. I honestly can't believe that I'm going to see Stevie Wonder, live in the flesh. That is outrageous. Anyways, they keep pumping out new additions so I'll have to check it out but as of now here is what the line up looks like...
Show Reviews · 2011
Last year I had the honor and privilege to write a few show reviews for ReggaeMovement.com of my favorite acts in one of my favorite genres, reggae. I had a great time dancing and writing about these amazing shows from a fan perspective. I got to see some I'd never heard of and one of my favorite bands ever, Katchafire.
Here are the links to my reviews. Hopefully when I return from traveling I can start writing again. I will say that is one of the things I miss most. Live, beautiful music. Wether its in a friend's garage or at the biggest venue in San Diego, it is astounding the amount of spirit and joy a melody can fill you with. Irreplaceable. Undeniable. And oh so necessary for a full life. (in my humble opinion)
Anyways here they are... Cheers!
July 1: Fortunate Youth
March 23: Katchafire
February 17: Expendable
Coachella · 2011
April 15, 16 &17, 2011, I experienced my first, and undoubtedly not last, taste of the sweetness that is a music festival. I fell in love. I fell in love with the feeling you get just before your favorite band is about to step on stage and change what you thought you knew about a live performance. I fell in love with surrounding myself with the happiest people I already know but get to be surrounded by for 3 straight days (even if we all do kind of smell and were not sure if we'll ever see each other again if split up, yet always do). And I fell in love with the euphoria and overwhelming security of an entire crowd of people, like you or not who can't fucking wait to have the best weekend of their lives.
